The Damages - Add/Edit form enables you to add damage information for the container, container accessory, chassis, or chassis accessory specified in the gate form. You can also use the Damages form to update or delete existing damages for the equipment specified in the gate form.

Unit Level and Gate Transaction Level damages

In N4, you can record damages at the unit level or at the gate transaction level. At the unit level, all the units with the same ID (same primary equipment) share the same set of damages.

When you use the Update Damages option to update the damages for a unit, you update the unit level damages. Therefore, when you update the damages for one unit, N4 updates the damages associated with all the units with the same ID.

For example, if you have a container that is associated with a Departed unit and an Active unit, if you update the damages for the Active unit, N4 also updates the damages for the Departed unit and vice versa.

You can also record damages for a unit as it comes in or goes out the gate. When you use the Damages - Add/Edit form (on page 1) during a gate transaction, you record gate transaction level damages. Each gate transaction has its own set of damages and these damages are not shared. These damages are associated with the gate transaction and are not affected by any updates to the damages associated with the unit. You can use the Gate Transaction Inspector (on page 1) to view the damages recorded at the gate transaction level.

For example, when you deliver an Import container, any damages recorded for the unit are also copied to the gate transaction. However, if the same unit returns as an Export container, a new set of damages can be recorded for the unit and these are associated with the new gate transaction. If no damages are recorded for the Export container during the gate-in process, the gate transaction for the export unit does not have any damages.

To add damages for the specified container or chassis:
